ChicWear for Women of the 21st Century At NYFW AW15
Yes, it is called women's ready to wear but today it is women's chic wear. Autumn winter is a time to bundle up but how do we look lovely under all that? Layering has been in for sure. Make sure to have your go to jackets and coats for AW and after that then these clockwise:
Donna Karan - Donna knows how to dress a woman. This look would be divine on Marlene Dietrich or a today's 20 something and beyond. That is what is great about her designs. They will be stunning on 20 somethings and beyond. They are ageless. This black jacket with high in back fur trim collar lapel is cinched at waist for a dressy but causal look. The trousers that are just above the ankle with those peep toe ankle shoes are perfect. This type of look can go just about anywhere from day to night.
Edun - This line has it's ups and downs but this collection was definitely up! Love the 1960s YSL inspired look. This color blocked dress in neutral colors is rich over the suede boot leggings. Sleeveless is big for Fall/Winter. Again invest in turtle necks and warm coats. The high collar here gives just the right chic to this look. Hippie Chic!
Karen Walker - Karen's collection knocked me out! It was a modern 1970s collection. Loved every piece. But this one I gotta have. From top to toe this is DYNOMITE. The denim top at elbow length with a turtleneck underneath in dark taupe is tremendously exciting. The geometric mini is lovely and I am not a fan of minis. The umber colored ankle strap round toe retro platforms super freakin hot! And this hair color on this model is the new red to shoot for.
Opening Ceremony - Opening Ceremony is a progressive hipster line. However, they got out of their box. I hate culottes and let me be clear these really are not. I consider this length of pant below the knee wide leg but fitted at top which is flattering. Just love the yellow/gray print sleeveless top and how it is not fitted but gives a great line and sexiness to this look. Ok, the boots are sort of creepers meet granny zip up and are spot on!!!!
There were a few hats but not a new style to watch for soooooo disappointing. It would be great if New York Milliners would host in house shows for their collections each season. Or at the least do photos of them and post on their sites.
So there you have it for today. All my faves are on the pinboards so have a look. The designers are really putting out their A games this time around!
Cheers!
