At this time of year women tend to gravitate towards red lipstick more than other times. But red lips are great for all year around. Just ask Gwen Stefani! There are many lip brands out there and I have tried so many over a number of years. I took lots of tips from makeup artists that I have worked with and experimented on my own to find my right red lip color and formula. For the Winter Issue, I chose to talk about Retro style ala 1930s. The interest in hair and cosmetics from this fashion era is increasing and I love it! During this time makeup was meant to be more natural and a red lip.
Here are a few of my fav lip colors, brands and formulas.
There are many lip formulas to choose from lacquers, glosses, lipsticks, and pots. Above photo from top to bottom going clock wise.
- Senna Cosmetics - Creme Lipstick in Venetian Red - Lovely Dark Brick Red
- Besame - Classic Color Lipstick in Besame Red -A true Red
- Revlon - Super Lustrous Lipstick Shine in Carnival Spirit - Bright splashy Orange Red
- Butter London - Lippy Liquid Lipstick in Come to Bed Red - Bright Blue Red very glossy
- Senna Cosmetics - Lip Lacquer in Maraschino - Semi Glossy Red/Orange with Gold Shimmer
- Merle Norman - Liquid Lip color in Siren - Semi Dark Red Red matte liquid lip color ***Cover of Winter Issue above. My absolute Fav new lip product!
- Besame - Cream Rouge in Crimson - A dark light wearing rouge and lip stain.
Above are two of the tools I use to keep my lips conditioned and polished. Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Swivel Stick is my must have lip conditioner. It keeps them from cracking and cocoa butter helps with anti-aging. It Cosmetics "Your Lips But Better" Lip liner stain in Perfect Red is my best buddy and you can use it not only to line but all over the lip and this helps set a color and keep lips from bleeding. No matter what your age RED Lip Color bleeds. Here's the low down.
- Make sure lips are not chapped but smooth and conditioned.
- Make sure they are not too moist when applying the color.
- Use a lip liner that will blend with the color your are using. Rims are tacky!!!!!
- Choose a Red color that compliments your skin and not the outfit. I have Light skin color with gold undertones; therefore, I choose warmer reds.
- And here is the most important tip! Put on a layer of lip color then blot with a tissue. Then put on a couple more. This is what our grandmothers did and it works.
- Look in the mirror to make sure your lips are even and that your teeth are free from lip color.
- Even if you use a liquid glossy color it is good to blot and repeat at least once.
Well there you have it. So find your inner Siren and let your best Red Lip do the talking.
Cheers!
