Funky Fedora N Frocks

This is the first installment of Heather's Hat Style.  If you haven't already noticed I love hats.  I love to make them, style them, buy them, and wear them.  They have been a passion of mine since I was 5 years old.  I inherited my great-grandmother's black velvet 1950s cocktail hat with silk veil and I was hooked.  In 2002, I started learning the art of woven millinery or cut & sews.  Cut and sews are great because they will never need to be reblocked and if they get wet they won't loose their shape.

The first outfit for Heather's Hat Style is with the Funky Fedora.  This style has been popular with my customers since I began making hats back in Houston, TX for my friends.  They loved it and cried for more.  So I am still doing variations of it now and I just listed some beauties in the Mauvely Roses Estore.  So let me begin.

This hat was from my 2010 Collection of Stage Door Daisy which debuted at Los Angeles Fashion Week.  It is a velvet looking brown cord funky fedora hat.  I love how I can crush a cut and sew and make it look a bit rocker worn.  The side has a brown pink polka dot hand made ragged flower.  This particular style and fabric looks great with western rockabilly uptown looks.  Mix dark browns with blues and pinks.  Make sure the pink is slight and let the blues and browns mix it up.

Amethyst Jeans in a slight flare with brown large stitch low rise dark denim
Siegerson Morrison 1996 Vintage Retro Camel Leather Heeled Oxfords (my fav shoe of all time).

For my hair which seems to be a bit of contention for women when styling hats is up.  But trust me, this type of hat you can wear hair up or down.  Since it is a bit ragged looking, I chose a messy low bun.  Makeup is heavy on cheeks and lips both in the blue red hues.  I kept the eyes in browns.

So there you have it.  Don't be afraid to wear funky hats with your looks daily.  They really add something special to personal style.

You can find the new versions of my funky fedora in the Mauvely Roses Estore in a beautiful rose mauve.

And again these are cut and sew wool versions of retro fedoras.  They are great because they will last a long time, mold to your head and never loose their shape.

Get Hatty!
