Where should I begin with the round up of the Spring Summer 2015 Looks from New York Fashion Week? Some critics (which being a critic of fashion is redundant anyway) say it is stale. Hello, what on earth where you looking at? I have been in the Fashion Industry since a wee thing and believe me it is starting to re-emerge in New York. Designers are finally getting it together. Women are looking like women again and pretty.
American style has its roots in the early 20th century when during WWI buyers were forced to look here for design due to the war. Then in WWII American Style was solidified with designers like Claire McCardell. I am seeing her influence for SS15. She was trained in Europe and the states. This brought about a new style which she interpreted for the more casual American Lifestyle.
Now bring us back to the 21st Century and Clarie's influence and design aesthetic are re-emerging. With European lines showing at NYFW, it has melded the European look once again with the American Lifestyle. And I for one am so glad. Designers are once again turning out looks that are put together and WEARABLE. What does that dirty word wearable mean? Well aren't clothes suppose to be made for women to wear everyday?
Genres and not trends are coming back. I noticed 1990s, 1960s, 1950s, 1940s, 1930s & 1920s retroness making its presence known at the shows. Footwear was however somewhat boring but the looks above got it right. Headwear was sparse to say the least. But headbands and bow headpieces came forth. Bravo to Donna Karan & Thom Browne for bringing the talent of Sir Stephen Jones Millinery to New York Fashion Week. Some big brim hats where still in play. I would love to see New York Milliners show there lines during fashion week. They could even just do it in studio to a small crowd and it would be so impactful for hat wearing.
All in all the looks above are just a few of my FAVS from the Pinboards. You can see all my picks on the NYFW SS15 Pinboards. These looks had a punch to them that I am loving. I would wear every single one of them. And alot of what I choose is based on whether I would or would not wear it but not always. I can only present my point of view. An eclectic American Style is starting to emerge. And it is polished but has attitude. Hollywood Golden Era Glamor seems to be at play. Wide leg pants are returning. Platform creepers. Tangerine was noticeable color throughout. Black & white looks were appealing. I loved the relaxed but uber stylish theme that seemed to run through all my picks.
So there you have it! Way to step it up and forward New York. I heart you!
TTFN!
